East Texas Christian Academy is part of a growing network of schools across the country - private, public, and charter – that use the Core Knowledge curriculum. It exposes students (K-8) to a broad range of topics while also being very specific. With this approach to learning, our students gain new knowledge each year as they build on what they have already learned. A growing body of evidence shows that Core Knowledge fosters excellence by improving student performance. We have students whose achievement test scores in various subjects have risen 2 to 20 percentile points in one year when comparing them to students nationally. Our teachers have a specific sequence of topics to be taught at each grade level, but they are free to be as creative as they wish in how the information is presented to the students. Core Knowledge is described as solid, specific, sequenced, and shared.
